- Find the library?
The library is attached to the lower ground floor of the Horizon Centre.
You can enter the library by walking through the Horizon Centre’s main entrance and taking the lift or stairs to the lower ground floor. The entrance to the library is next to the Horizon Centre’s back door. You will need to swipe your TSDFT staff ID badge to access this door (or you can ring the doorbell).
The library’s main entrance is situated around the back of the Horizon Centre (opposite the staff accommodation). Our main entrance is unlocked during staffed hours. Outside of staffed hours, access is possible by swiping your TSDFT staff ID badge.
To exit the library when the doors are locked press the white exit switch on the door frame of the library’s main entrance. If the door doesn’t open automatically give the left-hand side door a push.
The library is staffed 8.30 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Access is available outside of our staffed hours by using your TSDFT ID badge for access.
- Get a login to access the library's online resources?
To access the library’s online resources (e.g. ejournals, ebooks and databases) you need to use the same username and password that you use to log in to a Trust computer.
To simplify the login process, you no longer need a separate OpenAthens account. An OpenAthens account is now automatically linked to your Trust computer login.
You can also use your login to access the library’s resources from home.
If you do not have a Trust computer login then please speak to your line manager or placement co-ordinator.
- Search for articles or books?
To carry out a simple search for any books, ebooks or journal articles that match your search terms we recommend that you use the Knowledge and Library Hub.
If you need to complete a more in-depth search, then the Health and Care Databases are where you should head.
To login to the Knowledge and Library Hub or Health and Care Databases use the same username and password that you use to login to a Trust computer.
If you only want to search for books, then the SWIMS Catalogue will be of most use.
Guides are available to help you get started with the library’s resources.
Don’t forget to contact us if you need any help with your search.
- Borrow books?
Our books can be found in the quiet study area of the library.
In order to borrow books you need to be a member of the library. You will need your library card or library barcode sticker.
A self-service machine is located in the quiet study area of the library. To borrow books simply scan your barcode and then place your books in the gap. The books that you are borrowing will be listed on the screen along with their due date. A few days before your books are due you will receive a reminder email.
You can borrow a maximum of 8 books at a time. Books are loaned for 28 days (unless otherwise specified) and can be renewed up to 3 times providing they have not been reserved.
If you have lost your library card please speak to a member of the library team who will replace it for you.
- Request an article or book?
Search for the book or article you require via the Knowledge and Library Hub.
If the searched for title is not available then you will usually see a request button. Click the button and complete the request form. Once you press submit the request will be emailed to us and we will do our best to source the item for you.
Requested articles will be sent to you by email. Books will be held in the library for you to collect – we will email to notify you once the book has arrived.
If required a blank request form can be completed.
- Renew my books?
You can renew your books online through the SWIMS Catalogue website.
-
- Visit the SWIMS Catalogue website
- Click the login option
- Either login to your library account or follow the instructions to register
- From the menu on the left select current loans and select which titles you want to renew
Note: books can be renewed up to 3 times as long as they have not not been reserved by another borrower.
-
- Return books?
To return books please drop them into the book return box which is situated in the main entrance area of the library (just before the doors to the quiet study area). You do not need to return them via the self-service machine. If you would like to borrow more books straightaway then please hand your books to a member of the library team.
