Health and Care Databases
If you need to carry out an in-depth search that is robust and reproducible then you will need to use one or more of the available health and care databases. These databases are bibliographic and allow for advanced searching to be carried out. If you just need to carry out a simple search or are just starting your research then you may find our Knowledge and Library Hub a good starting point.
The following bibliographic databases with various topic coverage are currently available to all NHS staff and students:
AMED (Ovid) – allied and complementary medicine including palliative care
BNI (Proquest) – nursing, midwifery and community healthcare
CINAHL (EBSCOHost)– nursing and allied health
Embase (Ovid) – biomedical and pharmaceutical literature
Emcare (Ovid) – nursing and allied health
Emerald Health and Social Care (Emerald Insight) – covers a wide range of topics with a health and social care focus such as children’s services, safeguarding, integrated care, digital health, substance abuse, mental health and more..
Health Business Elite (EBSCOHost) – all aspects of health care administration and other non-clinical aspects of health care institution management
HMIC (Ovid) – healthcare management
Medline (Ovid) – biomedical, life sciences, allied health and pre-clinical sciences literature
PsycInfo (Proquest) – psychology, behavioural sciences and related disciplines
Social Policy and Practice (Ovid) – behavioural and social sciences, social work and public health
